The Week at a Glance
Monday, June 17th, Exhibition Installation Day: The forum officially begins on Tuesday. If you are in town today, you might consider coming to the museum to help with the installation of the show.
Tuesday, June 18th, Registration and Opening Reception: Registration will be held in the La Quinta Inn meeting room lo‐cated on the second floor of the hotel. Check‐in to receive your welcome bag and settle in. Then in the evening, we will all meet at the museum from 6 pm till 8 pm for an opening reception. We are planning this to be a public event, so feel free to invite guests. Enjoy the assortment of hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar while mingling with many of the locals.
Wednesday, June 19th, Drawing and Painting: We will carpool to the museum where we will spend the day drawing and painting the aircraft on site. The museum will advertise this as a museum event, so you might expect bystanders glancing over your shoulder. What a great opportunity to talk about aviation art. Lunch and dinner will be on your own for the day.
Thursday, June 20th Academics at the Hotel: We are still working on the lineup for the day, but we have confirmed presenta‐tions by Mark “Patches” Pestana on the Art of Aerospace Patches, Marc Poole on Picture, Planes, and Perspective, and Hank Ca‐ruso on Flying and Illustrating Pax River Aircraft. We are working on lining up a presentation on the restoration of the Pax River Astronaut Mural as well as many others. Our business lunch will be catered at the hotel, and dinner will be on your own.
Friday, June 21st Naval Air Base Day: We will collect our box lunches and travel to USNTPS for presentations and tours of the base. Capt. Barb Bell, USN Ret, one of the first women enrolled in a test pilot school, will be talking about the early days of test pilot school. CDR Amanda Lippert will give a presentation on flight gear development and testing. Hank is working on shoring up a presentation by the instrumentation group of Pax on the filming of TOPGUN Maverick. We will have either a bus or walk‐ing tour of the base, followed by a presentation on Carrier Suitability Testing given by someone from Carrier Suit. Dinner will be on your own.
Saturday, June 22nd Critique, Mentoring, and Awards Dinner: the critique session will be held in the morning in the hotel meeting room. We are working on contacting local schools for student mentoring opportunities. The awards banquet will be held in the museum’s main hall.
Ye Bird and Star will be open in the meeting room space at the hotel.
Special Note: for those planning on attending the classes and tour of the naval base, military clearances are needed. We will let you know the details as the event approaches.
