After breakfast, make your way back to the P-51 room for our morning briefing, beginning at 8:30 AM. We will then carpool to the USAFM for a day of drawing and painting the museum’s enormous collection of airplanes spanning decades of military aviation and beyond. Lunch and dinner are on your own. You are welcome to visit the cafeteria at the museum for lunch.

Thursday, June 19th Classes and Restoration Tour

We will begin our briefing at 8:30 AM. After which, we will be pleased to hear from three ASAA presenters on their areas of specialty. Mark Pestana will give us more information on Cold War Reconnaissance. Steve Cox will speak on The Streak Eagle, 50 Years On: Restoring a Record Setter. Hank Caruso will wrap up our morning with his presentation entitled, “Flight Deck Shenanigans: A Look at Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck Activities That Are Beyond the Scope of Regular Navy Carrier Operations.” When his presentation is complete, we will gather our boxed lunches and travel to the USAFM Restoration Center for a special afternoon tour. For dinner, we will meet back at the Hope Hotel for our business meeting and buffet dinner scheduled at 6 PM.

Friday, June 20th Classes and Russ Turner Field—Aerodrome Les Noyers

After our 8:30 AM briefing, we will be happy to hear from two more ASAA presenters. Marc Poole’s presentation, “Lighting the Fire,” will focus on his experience participating with John Clark in the Space Force Art assignment. Mike McKinney will then talk about the Osprey with his presentation entitled, “Dream Machine or Nightmare: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Osprey.” We will gather our boxed lunches and carpool to the Aerodrome Les Noyers Airfield for a step back in time to the WWI era of open cockpit biplanes and rotary engines. Several pilots will fly in with their vintage aircraft for you to paint for the afternoon. Dinner is on your own.

Saturday, June 21st Critique Day and Awards Banquet

There will be no morning briefing. The critique session will begin at 10 AM for those who wish to participate. Otherwise, Saturday is a free day to finish your painting done on site or to do some sightseeing. We will be closing the voting for the two Matt Jefferies Awards (unjuried work and work done on site) by noon. The awards banquet will be held at the Hope Hotel with a cocktail hour at 6 PM followed by the dinner and awards presentation beginning at 7 PM. The attire for the evening is Business Dress.
